— Famous orcish proverb [1]

The Warborn are found all over the world, on every continent [4]. It has also been said many of their enclaves are hidden, meaning that they can appear suddenly in large numbers. [3]

Wild regions such as forests and caves are places where the Warborn are most likely to be found. [2]

Main articles: Orcs, Goblins

Supposedly, the Warborn have been around for as long as anyone can remember[3]. It is rumoured that in the First Age, the many tribes of the Orcs and Goblins were all united around a single leader [4]. A few even believe they were the ones responsible for the downfall of the Saurians [4].

Both orcs and goblins are seen in the tapestry of the World Hymn in the Fourth Age[5] and the Sixth Age[6], where they wage war against the dwarves, Beast Herds and other factions.

Culture[]

"The Warborn are a paradox. On the one hand, they are the most ferocious beasts of war. On the other, observing them in their daily life, they sometimes look like actors playing a comedy.

— From the records of Sergeant Frederick Wilhelm Hemmer, survivor [7]

An Orc and a Goblin.

The Warborn are creatures who live to fight.[4] Some have described it as if their every social interaction is designed as a selection for the fittest for war. They do however seem to have a sort of code to live by. Acts of disrespect towards the warlord of the tribe can results in ones death, at the approval of the rest of the tribe.[8]

The Warborn are said to have a instinctual connection between races, allowing them to communicate amongst each other perfectly. There are however differences in culture between the orcs and the goblins. [8]

The basic group of orc society is the brood. Some might call it a family, each one consisting of orcs born from the same nest. The most fit brood in a tribe is expected to lead it, and the chief of that brood is most often the warlord of the whole tribe. [8]

The Feast of Zagjan[]

Main article: Feast of Zagjan

The Feast of Zagjan is an annual festival celebrated by Warborn tribes all over the world in celebration of the god Zagjan.[8] It is mainly a festival for the orcs, but Goblins also participate. It involves drinks, foods, games and fights. [9]

The Games of Zagjan fill an important societal role for the orcs. It is a time of challenges where the leadership of the tribe can be shifted from one brood to another[9]. [8]

The Warborn are said to worship their gods through blood sacrifice and battle. [10]

A central figure in the Warborn religion is the warlord of the tribe. He is seen as an embodied of their most important god, Tazrek. Another important god if Zagjan, the Wild Boar.[8]

Language[]

One language spoken by the Warborn is called Bwabatok.[11] It seems fairly common to have goblins acting as translators between orcs and other species.[8][9]

The Warborn Species[]

The Warborn consists of two species, orcs and goblins. They are said to be closely related, often described as cousins[9] or kin.[8] Both species are known for their green skin[4], though they can come in a variety of earthly skin colours are common, from ochre to green to dark brown [2].

As a species, the Warborn are not considered very intelligent. They are however said to possess abilities of tactics and strategy in war. They can be communicated with, although some say impossible to train.[8]
